The Day I Met Your Father

The day I met your father,
He had flowers in his hands.
Swiftly, he passed me by
With not a second glance.

Looking at his fleeting form,
I wondered whom they were for.
The petals strewn all over
Slowly curling on the floor.

I walked on a familiar path,
On a day like everyday.
Feeling a little uplifted,
Smiling along all the way.

I came upon an open window,
Through it I saw his face.
Full of laughter and tears
With an expression that stays.

My tracks slowed and stopped.
I gazed long at the window.
Something about that moment
Made everything else move slow.

The day I met your father,
I saw hope in his eyes.
And I knew I was in love
As he looked into mine.
